Memories for the gutter

The blowing out of his loins into her was good, but not nearly as good as the touching and care that came afterwards. Years later when he lost everything and his home was the gutter those times were distant and unconnected from him. No woman would ever again come near him, let alone open her legs and heart to him. He'd always known this was the way it would end, long before he'd ever been with any woman, in fact. His destiny was and always had been this gutter, the one under the El near the the store where you bought sheet music. So before it was realized he took it all in saying to himself, Soak it up; you'll need your memories for the gutter. Turns out all that was crap, however. Those memories were no more useful than dreams and in fact over time he doubted they'd ever even happened.
