When I was in college I went up to my psychology professor after class and asked, Who has the more accurate view on life, the depressed people or the ones who are happy? Nobody knows, she said.

Pascal said he didn't know if there was a god but he'd opt for believing in one because the benefits of believing outweighed the risks of not.

I don't know if it's more accurate to view life as gloom or joy, but, I believe in the latter for the same risk-benefit reasons that prompted Pascal to believe in god.
